Press Release

Freedom Festival at Liberation Threads

Celebrating the holiday season + our one year anniversary

Durham, NC - December 2, 2017 Saturday, December 2nd is the one year anniversary of Liberation Threads, a 'slow fashion' boutique in downtown Durham.  It is also the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.  Hence, the Freedom Festival was born. Liberation Threads will celebrate its own birthday, and also celebrate its unique mission to honor the inherent worth of every man and woman and their birthright to not be exploited for another’s gain. Many brands carried by the boutique provide sustainable employment to women in developing countries who are at high risk of being victims of human trafficking/enslavement. From noon to four p.m. the storefront will be in full party mode with live music, international food (from Chirba Chirba, Goorsha and Gonza) and festive holiday spirits. It will also be a great time for holiday shopping-- Liberation Threads will be offering one-day discounts and giving away prizes every hour. Come ring in the holiday season and celebrate freedom.

More about Liberation Threads:

We are a Durham women’s boutique offering a carefully curated collection of ethically sourced garments and goods. The boutique was founded in 2016 by Rebecca Kuhns, a practicing physician, professional stylist, and mom of a 3-year-old.  At Liberation Threads, Rebecca has created a space of welcome and positive energy.  In this space, we strive every day to leave our customers feeling affirmed and uplifted, and to celebrate the amazing work of those who crafted the garments we sell. Therefore, our collection features the work of local makers and designers, a handful of contemporary American designers with a transparent supply chain, and a number of design-driven fair trade labels.  We believe that what we do is truly changing the world- making both an impact on global well-being, and on wardrobes here at home.
